I find the craft of painting to be both humbling and inspiring...relaxing and invigorating. When I get an idea in my head and the runway of time to test it out, the hours can disappear into the canvas.
Due to a breakneck working style (and a notoriously short supply of patience when it comes to watching paint dry!), virtually everything I paint is acrylic directly on canvas.
I have exhibited all over the US and my work has been sold to collectors all over the world (including UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Australia and more!) I am currently a Resident Artist at 311 Gallery in downtown Raleigh, NC.
Contrast plays a big part in all my work: contrast in colors, order along with chaos, geographic shapes alongside fluid, abstract motion. A personal favorite for both me and my customers are my custom portraits (of original compositions and popular figures/icons!) My “Landscapes” and “Urban” series convey nature and city life respectively via a modern, contemporary approach. My “Abstractions” series provides an abstract visual to contrast, bold colors and themes.
A native of Raleigh, NC, I grew up with an artistic bent from an early age. After living in several different locations (Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Atlanta, San Francisco and London), I have settled back in my hometown of Raleigh with my wife Leela and 3 daughters (Carly, 13 and identical twins Valerie & Isla, 11) and established my studio and art business, Joel Tesch Studio.
I am active in art festivals and actively pursue exhibition opportunities and commissions.
